Sierra Madre, charmingly known as Wisteria City (it is home to the word’s largest wisteria vine), sits at the foothills of the San Gabriel Valley and offers classic California charm and small-town appeal. The Sierra Madre Villa Hotel was among the first of the San Gabriel Valley summer resort hotels that popped up in the late 19th century and in 1864 the Mount Wilson trail was established, enabling access to Mount Wilson and the creation of the Mount Wilson observatory.

Real Estate:  Sierra Madre is known for its older homes for sale. Many of the town’s homes are at least 50 years old and much of the real estate for sale in the area is single-family residences although there are apartments for rent as well as townhouses for sale.

Community Life: Quiet and charming describes the center of this foothills town. There are also plenty of great hiking trails nearby including the Mt. Wilson trail and the Chantry Flats area. The area is full of small restaurants and shops, many of which have deep roots in the area. Annual events include the Wistaria Festival and an Independence Day event that draws crowds from neighboring towns.

Education: Sierra Madre is part of the Pasadena Unified School District and has an elementary school, Sierra Madre Elementary and a middle school, Sierra Madre Middle School. There are also several private schools including The Gooden School.

Transportation: Sierra Madre is easily reached by the 210 freeway. The area offers transportation on a Gateway Bus. The City is served by Metro Local lines 268 and 487 and buses offer connect to the Metro Gold Line.

Local Attractions: The Sierra Madre Public Library is the fourth oldest city library in Los Angeles, the first library building was completed in 1887. The city is also home to the Jailhouse in located in the Historic City Hall located at the old jail.
